Basement director Michelle scoops prestigious award for community work

Strategic and Operations Director for The Basement, Michelle Smith, has scooped a prestigious Future 50 Award for her work in the Liverpool community.

The future is bright for Michelle

Future 50 Awards celebrate the achievements of young entrepreneurs who provide innovative, sustainable business solutions to social problems.

Michelle helps people in Liverpool to unlock their true potential through Mpower People CIC, the social enterprise she set up in 2009.

Mpower seeks to empower local people to live healthier and more independent lives, through a range of sports activities, healthy-living programmes, and training in personal and enterprise development. Services are open to anyone in the community, including those from disadvantaged groups such as the long-term unemployed, NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) clients, BEM (Black or Ethnic Minority) members, and people with a health condition.

Michelle, who will receive her award at a special reception, said: “I am honoured to receive a Future 50 Award. Mpower proves that a small social enterprise can make a big difference to the lives of local people.

“It is a privilege to serve my community – and I dedicate my award to Paula, one of our members, who inspired me to be a better person and to help and motivate others.”

As a Future 50 Young Social Entrepreneur, Michelle will receive skilled business support and training through a series of networking events.
